Parents always have questions regarding infant care… Why should a child see a dentist as early as 6 months of age. Here Dr. Nadia addresses some of the most commonly asked questions by parents of infants.
When is the first dental visit for a child?
“First tooth first visit”..Why should my child see a dentist when the first tooth comes in. This visit helps the parents establish a stable dental home for their child and the dentist at this age can provide preventative care and examination to decrease future incidence of dental disease and help your child have a healthy smile in the future.
What is baby bottle decay?
An older term used to describe early childhood caries. Once children have teeth in erupted in their mouth, it is important to limit the times of day the child is consuming milk. Consuming breast milk and regular milk throughout the night causes rapid decay of the developing teeth. Juices and other sugary beverages in the bottle also accelerate the process of tooth decay in young children. Children should be weaned off the bottle by 12 months of age. Once you see your child has the first tooth start incorporating a brushing routine with non fluoridated toothpaste and a soft toothbrush to allow for future prevention of cavities.
If there are any brown spots or dark areas that seem suspicious to you while you are brushing your child’s teeth come in so Dr. Nadia can evaluate those for you to rule out active cavities.
